Hurricane Irma has come and gone, and thankfully left Sanibel and Captiva relatively unharmed! We obviously experienced some serious wind and rain, but I’m glad to report that Island businesses are well into cleaning up any remaining debris and are ready for visitors to come and enjoy the islands.
That said, we were lucky compared to many of the areas to our south and east. The keys took quite a blow and will likely take a while to recover. The Marco Island/Naples area to our south is still working hard to recover a week later. The Chokoloskee and Everglades City area will be rebuilding for a while to come. The good news is that this is Florida and we know how to deal with this type of unfortunate weather.
We are currently putting together a video showing the state of the islands that we’ll be posting shortly. (the video was posted here in our gallery) However if you have plans to come an visit us soon – I believe you’ll be in fine shape as most of the hard working people I know on Captiva are ready to get back to work and normal life on the islands!
That said, the fishing is getting back on track, and we’ve seen big schools of Bull Redfish cruising beaches and the Tarpon are starting to show back up. The Snapper bite has been amazing and snook are plentiful.
